The UK Arctic and Antarctic Partnership (UKAAP) is a community led initiative established in 2014, aimed at bringing together researchers across a full range of disciplines who are interested in the polar regions. It will also serve as the UK National Committee for IPY 2032-33.

Guidelines for UK community white paper contributions to IPY

As we build towards the next IPY, UK polar communities are starting to develop ‘research strengths and priorities’ white papers to form part of the UK’s contribution to the IPY.
The UK Arctic-Antarctic Partnership is the UK’s National Committee for the IPY and has responsibility for formally badging any such outputs as IPY documents.
Whilst any community is of course welcome to develop white papers, those communities seeking the use of the UKAAP, IPY or NERC Arctic Office logos and formal approvals are required to follow this procedure.
New Report – UK Arctic Ocean and Coastal Research for IPY 5

In June 2025, The National Oceanography Centre (NOC) Southampton hosted a workshop on the contribution of UK Arctic Ocean science to the International Polar Year 32/33, bringing together individuals from more than 30 HEIs, government agencies and NGOs from across the UK. The report, UK Arctic Ocean and Coastal Research for IPY 5, is now available for download and will be presented at the upcoming Arctic Circle Assembly in Reykjavik, later this week.

UKAAP will serve as the UK’s IPY National Committee. Further information about the IPY processes will be announced in due course. In the meantime, you can find out more about the International Polar Year 2032/2033 on the IPY website.
